(1) Beginning of Biometric Identification Program in Bangladesh from the 2008. All Bangladeshis who are 18 years of age or older are all connected to the central biometric database, which the Bangladesh Election Commission uses in elections and other fields. Prior to 2016, ordinary Identity Cards were provided where only the ID holder's name, father and mother's name, date of birth, ID number, photo and signature were mentioned.
(2) The NID Wing of the Bangladesh Election Commission presented the smart national identity card on October 2016. The smart card has an intergrate circuit card (ICC) attached, also known as a chip card. The smart card can be read with the help of a chip card machine. All citizen information is stored there. The national symbols of Bangladesh have been exposed in the design of smart cards. These include the War of Liberation, national birds, Shapala flowers, tea gardens, monuments etc. Smart national distribution will begin in Daganganj upazila by 2021.
